Hiring a full-time Community Programs Coordinator. Positions start March 12.
Duties include teaching students and seniors how to grow food sustainably and managing existing gardens at two senior housing sites, 4 elementary schools and a solar greenhouse at the middle school. S/he will work with seniors, students, and teachers to maintain these garden spaces. The food grown is used in the school lunch program for taste testings and given away to seniors and food pantries when school is not in session. Responsible for planting and managing seedlings at the farm for all gardens. Tasks include working with seniors, students, teachers and volunteers to plant, cultivate, water, provide pest control and harvest crops at each site.
The Community Programs Coordinator will also be responsible for maintaining the farm’s volunteer data base and recruiting adults, school children, and seniors to participate in community service projects at the senior/school garden sites.
Candidates for the position should have extensive gardening experience, a demonstrated ability to work independently and in a group environment with both adults and school age children, be self- motivated and possess excellent communication skills.
Compensation includes a $200 weekly stipend, plus room and board. This is a seasonal position from mid-March through mid-November.
